Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate digital competence and self-efficacy in academic libraries in South-West region of Nigeria using the framework of Big Data adoption.
Design/methodology/approach: An open-ended survey utilising a qualitative methodology, was distributed among system librarians in six academic libraries in South-West Nigeria.
Findings: The present volume of literature has led to a variety of opinions from the perspective of librarians about what constitutes an appropriate definition of Big Data adoption. Academic libraries and system librarians have not provided much thought to the idea of Big Data adoption services in libraries. Furthermore, the results of the research suggest that academic libraries located in South-West Nigeria are actively utilizing Big Data adoption. The results of the poll highlight the need for academic librarians to have even more training in Big Data and its possible uses. Thus, the goal of this study is to determine whether digital self-efficacy and digital competence may help enhance the application of Big Data adoption in academic libraries in context.
